Jose Antonio Salaverria - El Pedregal, San Francisco
heirloom
1400
praline + peach
‘El Pedregal’ is one tablon (plot) inside the greater ‘San Francisco’ farm near Santa Ana volcano. Owned by Jose Antonio Salaverria- a 6th generational coffee producer.
Grown at an altitude of 1400 masl. This heirloom lot has been fully washed and soaked.
The family have been working over the last 8 years to regenerate their soil through the use of organic fertiliser- this has sadly not been the case for many coffee farms in El Sal that have had to give up and abandon their farms due to leaf rust problems they could not combat.
Social Impact:
The Salaverrias take the well being of their employees very seriously. As well as giving bonuses to their farm managers for performance of coffees, they provide education on work safety and environmental practices, housing for their workers and arrange for doctors to visit their farm to provide medical care.
Over the years they’ve built two medical clinics in Atacco and are supporting them financially. A site for the school in San Francisco was donated by the family, and they are building a soccer field. The tradition and culture of the family is generally to do a lot of charity for the local communities.
60% of their production is Rainforest Certified.
