Sítio Maranhão is a postcard farm set in the rolling hills of Minas Gerias, Brazil.
The Betti family are made up of brothers Josiel and Jeferson, together with their wives Jessica and Cleissimara. On the farm the brothers take the harvest while Jessica and Cliessinmara are responsible for the post-harvest.
Our selection from Sítio Maranhão is this naturally processed Yellow Catuai that has undergone an extended fermentation before sun drying. The coffee is hand picked and delivered to the fermentation tanks to rest for 72 hours before being laid to dry in the sun. This process takes several weeks and requires careful monitoring to ensure that the beans are dried evenly and the correct humidity has been achieved.
The Yellow Catuai variety of coffee is known for its sweet and acidic flavour. This varietal absorbs less sunlight than the red fruiting varietal leading to a slower maturation and a more complex cup.
With an annual production of 300 bags, Sítio Maranhão is a very small coffee farm. The Betti Family's dedication to quality and sustainability has made them a well-respected and sought-after producer. Their passion for coffee shines through, and their commitment to the environment and their community has made them a valuable contributor to the local region.
We sourced this coffee via Coffee Cargo who locate high potential and underrepresented small-scale coffee producers across Brazil, shipping them over by boat to minimise carbon emissions.
